Karzai Doesn't See Any Benefit from Twelve Years of West's War in Afghanistan

Outgoing Afghan president Hamid Karzai says our twelve years of waging war in his country has brought, "a lot of suffering, a lot of loss of life, and no gains".

He is right. But he and his buddies benefited the most. I understand they're millionaires.

That's true, LD. Long ago I wrote that, if you looked in the top drawers of Karzai's desk, you would find a Makarov pistol in one, a stack of first class airline tickets to Europe in the next and another stack of bankbooks in the third.

Mound, it appears that you did visit his office. He will fly off to Britain before April 2014 then?

It's hard to say when they'll leave, LD, but they'll be ready to go on short notice. That is unless they see a way to stay in the game after the west pulls out.
